Spider-Man Parkour
He might not be able to shoot actual webbing from his hands, but that doesn’t mean Tom Holland will be leaving all the stunts in up to the wizardry of CGI.
On Saturday he shared a couple of videos on his Instagram, taken behind the scenes of his new film. One of them features him sitting solemnly in front of a huge green screen, with flickering orange lights playing over his face that are probably supposed to give the look of flames somewhere in the distance. There also seems to be a large silhouette of a person that takes up most of the green screen- a member of the crew standing in the way of the lights? Another character in the film giving Parker a pep talk? Uncle Ben’s ghost having a “Simba, remember who you are” moment?
But that's not the only peek we get behind the curtain of Homecoming. Another video shows Holland’s stunt coordinator coaching him on a couple moves, and then Holland shows off his flipping skills, bouncing up into the air from a small trampoline and turning completely upside-down, before landing with a Spidey flourish.
Allowing actors to do their own stunts is a big risk that companies rarely choose to do, but it looks like Holland’s got this in the bag. In case we've all forgotten, he’s a trained dancer, who had his big break starring on the West End in Billy Elliot: The Musical. (I wonder what his Olympic floor routine would’ve looked like. Someone get this kid on the plane to Tokyo 2020.)
